QUESTION 4
You work as a database administrator at Certkingdom.com. Certkingdom.com is using a SQL Server 2008
instance. The SQL Server 2008 instance hosts quite a few applications. ABC also has a server
named ABC-SR43 that is used to store log files.
You have to set up a new job that stores log files on ABC-SR43. You create a new account
ABC\Log_Account. You set it up to be run by the SQL Server Agent Services.
However, your job fails to store any log files on ABC-SR43. After some investigation you notice
that the job does not have permissions to store files on ABC-SR43.
How should you remedy the situation? Select the best option.

A. You should set up ABC\Log_Accoun as a Remote Service account.
B. You should set up ABC\Log_Accoun as a Domain service account.
C. You should set up ABC\Log_Accoun as a Local Service account.
D. You should set up ABC\Log_Accoun as a Local System account.
E. You should set up ABC\Log_Accoun as a Network Service account.
F. You should set up ABC\Log_Account as a Domain account.

Answer: F

Explanation:
The service startup account defines the Microsoft Windows account in which SQL Server Agent
runs and its network permissions. SQL Server Agent runs as a specified user account. For
compatibility with earlier versions of SQL Server, SQL Server Agent can also run as the Local
System account.
In this scenario you should select a Domain account, which allows sufficient permissions and
improved security.

QUESTION 5
You work as a database administrator at Certkingdom.com. Certkingdom.com is using a SQL Server 2008
instance that has a table named ABC_Training. ABC_ Training contains a column named
ABC_Distance. A new Certkingdom.com training policy states that the training (ie. The ABC_Distance
column in the ABC_Training table) cannot be increased or decreased by more than 3%.
How should you implement the ABC Training Policy?

A. You should consider developing a view which rolls back non-compliant Certkingdom.com policy
changes to ABC_Distance.
B. You should consider developing a stored procedure which rolls back non-compliant Certkingdom.com
policy compliant changes to the ABC_Distance column.
C. You should consider developing a primary key constraint to the ABC_training table which only
contains valid values on ABC_Distance.
D. You should consider developing a create trigger which rolls back non-compliant Certkingdom.com
policy changes to the ABC_Distance column.
E. You should consider developing an update trigger which rolls back non-compliant Certkingdom.com
policy changes to the ABC_Distance column.
F. You should consider developing a delete trigger which rolls back non-compliant Certkingdom.com policy
changes to the ABC_Distance column.

Answer: E

Explanation:

QUESTION 6
You work as a database administrator at Certkingdom.com. Certkingdom.com is using a SQL Server 2008
instance that contains a database named ABC_DB. Certkingdom.com contains a lot of customer data
which is processed by the Web application. You need to keep the customer information safe since
it is confidential. This information includes files of data, backups, and log files.
How can this be achieved and still keep the performance and functionality of the web application?
Select one or two.

A. You should consider adding a transaction Log on ABC_DB, and set the information to be
encrypted for a fixed time.
B. Use BitLocker Drive Encryption on the hard drives on the SQL Server.
C. Use EFS (Encrypting File System) on the hard drives on the SQL Server.
D. You should consider enabling the Transparent Database Encryption on ABC_DB and back up
the transaction log.
E. You should consider enabling the Transparent Database Encryption on ABC_DB and enabling
the Transparent Database Encryption on master database.
F. Use cell-level encryption for the specific data that needs to be kept safe.

Answer: D

Explanation:
With the introduction of transparent data encryption (TDE) in SQL Server 2008, users now have
the choice between cell-level encryption as in SQL Server 2005, full database-level encryption by
using TDE, or the file-level encryption options provided by Windows. TDE is the optimal choice for
bulk encryption to meet regulatory compliance or corporate data security standards. TDE works at
the file level, which is similar to two Windows® features: the Encrypting File System (EFS) and
BitLocker™ Drive Encryption, the new volume-level encryption introduced in Windows Vista®,
both of which also encrypt data on the hard drive. TDE does not replace cell-level encryption,
EFS, or BitLocker.

QUESTION 7
You work as a database administrator at Certkingdom.com. Certkingdom.com is using two SQL Server 2008
sample named ABCSmp1 and ABCSmp2. Furthermore, ABCSmp1 contains a database named
ABC_DB. A Certkingdom.com user named Mia Hamm uses her logon MiaHamm to log on to the database
on ABCSmp1. During the week you have transferred ABC_DB to ABCSmp2. You manually
recreate the Mia Hamm login on ABCSmp2. However, when she tries to login on ABC_DB at
ABCSmp2, she received an error message stating that she is not allowed access. Mia Hamm
needs to access ABC_DB and you need to make it happen.
What T-SQL code should you use? (Each correct option is part of the answer. Choose TWO)

A. Use Certkingdom.com;
B. Use ABC_DB; *
C. Use ABCSmp1;
D. Use ABCSmp2;
E. ALTER LOGIN MiaHamm WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE = ABC_DB;
F. CHANGE LOGIN MiaHamm WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE = ABC_DB;
G. ALTER LOGIN MiaHamm WITH PASSWORD = ‘pwd1234′ UNLOCK;
H. CHANGE LOGIN MiaHamm WITH PASSWORD = ‘pwd1234′ UNLOCK;
I. CHANGE USER MiaHamm WITH LOGIN = MiaHamm;
J. ALTER USER MiaHamm WITH LOGIN = MiaHamm; *
K. ALTER LOGIN MiaHamm ENABLE;
L. CHANGE LOGIN MiaHamm ENABLE;

Answer: B,J

Explanation:

QUESTION 8
You work as a database administrator at Certkingdom.com. Certkingdom.com is using a SQL Server 2008 instance.
Your junior assistant is curious about on how to move a table, such as ABC_table, from its current
scheme (scheme1) to another scheme (scheme2)
How can you accomplish this in T-SQL?

A. You should consider using the following:
ALTER TABLE Schema1.ABC_Table SWITCH TO Schema2.ABC_table;

B. You should consider using the following:
ALTER AUTHORIZATION ON Schema1.ABC_Table TO Schema2;

C. You should consider using the following:
ALTER SCHEMA schema2 TRANSFER schema1.ABC_table;

D. You should consider using the following:
ALTER SCHEMA schema1 TRANSFER schema2.ABC_table;

E. You should consider using the following:
ALTER USER Schema1 WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = Schema2;

F. You should consider using the following:
MOVE ABC_Table FROM SCHEMA schema1 TO schema2

G. You should consider using the following:
MOVE ABC_Table FROM schema1 TO schema2

Answer: C

Explanation:
ALTER SCHEMA can only be used to move securables between schemas in the same database.
To change or drop a securable within a schema, use the ALTER or DROP statement specific to
that securable.

QUESTION 9
You work as a database administrator at Certkingdom.com. Certkingdom.com is using a SQL Server 2008
instance. You have received instructions from management to allow the users at Certkingdom.com on the
SQL Server sample to use the OPENROWSET() function to search remote information sources.
You study incomplete code in the exhibit carefully. (Line numbers are used for reference purposes only)
Exhibit:
01. sp_configure ‘show advanced options’, 1
02. RECONFIGURE
03.
04. RECONFIGURE
05. GO
06.
07. SELECT a.*
08. FROM OPENROWSET(‘SQLNCLI’, ‘Server=Madrid;Trusted_Connection=yes;’,
09. ‘SELECT GroupName, Name, DepartmentID
10. FROM AdventureWorks.HumanResources.Department
11. ORDER BY GroupName, Name’) AS a;
12. GO
Which T-SQL statement should you insert at line 03 to make the batch meet the requirement in
this scenario?

A. sp_configure ‘Router control’, 1
B. sp_configure ‘Router control’, 0
C. sp_configure ‘Transaction Logs’, 1
D. sp_configure ‘Transaction Logs’, 0
E. sp_configure ‘Ad Lib Distributed Queries ‘, 1
F. sp_configure ‘Ad Lib Distributed Queries ‘, 0
G. sp_configure ‘Ad Hoc Distributed Queries’, 1
H. sp_configure ‘Ad Hoc Distributed Queries’, 0

Answer: G

Explanation:
By default, SQL Server does not allow ad hoc distributed queries using OPENROWSET and
OPENDATASOURCE. When this option is set to 1, SQL Server allows ad hoc access. When this
option is not set or is set to 0, SQL Server does not allow ad hoc access.
Ad hoc distributed queries use the OPENROWSET and OPENDATASOURCE functions to
connect to remote data sources that use OLE DB. OPENROWSET and OPENDATASOURCE
should be used only to reference OLE DB data sources that are accessed infrequently. For any
data sources that will be accessed more than several times, define a linked server.

I am currently engaged with mentoring some young technology start-up businesses. What strikes me about these companies is that they spend the majority of their time utilising their skills to deliver their product. They are agile, knowledgeable and very hungry to succeed and to create.

When do they find time to “learn” new emerging technologies? They seem to have learnt it “on the fly” as they go along – such is the pace of technology at the moment. With cloud computing, mobile computing and social media now becoming the current “bubble”, I realised just how easy it is for anyone in IT to become out of date quite rapidly.

Best Microsoft MCTS Certification, Microsoft MCITP Training at certkingdom.com

There is an old saying which says “use it or lose it” and I will add “use it, grow it and keep your eyes open to what is happening around you, always”. In this process we must keep learning.

Stopping learning, even for a few months or a whole year can make a huge difference. It is like being having a motor car – use it regularly and it works fine (sure it may need a little maintenance), but leave it parked outside for a year unused and the battery will be flat, tires a bit softer, oil a bit tired, the gas will have lost its vitality etc. (Of course it does depend on where you park it – it may not even be there when you return!)

Learning is the same, especially in IT (and most other professions – like medicine, law, tax etc) we need to keep up to date, and even a few months “out of the game” will render us less sharp, and left with an uphill battle if we want to regain our status.

If “IT” is our career, then we need to learn on a regular basis, via personal learning, e-learning, books, attending classes, or as I am realising, by working with very sharp entrepreneurs who are leveraging the three technology areas listed above without even breaking into a sweat.

What are your experiences of keeping yourself in the best shape you can?

Lucky for us there are many trained professionals who specialize in this particular area as there are so many eye diseases.

Sometimes these problems relating to eye occur due to eye strain or a person not taking proper care of his or her eye sight the way it is meant to be taken care of and there are even certain individuals who are genetically predisposed. Some of these eye diseases are curable while some are not as some can be stopped from advancing and some can even be totally reversed. If you are having any sort of problem relating to eye then the first thing you need to do is get you eyes examined and determine what sort if condition your eyes have and once you have determined that then you can take care of it accordingly.

There are five eye diseases which are most common in effecting the eyes. The first one on them is known as Hyperopia which is more commonly termed as far sightedness. It is the kind of eye problem where the distant vision is clear but the eyes are unable to focus on close work. The major symptom of far sightedness is blurred vision when performing or dealing with close works like reading. Other symptoms of this eye disease include headache and eye strain. The eyeball in this case becomes shorter than it normally should be and therefore a deformation of the eye muscle takes place.

The second one of these major eye diseases is Myopia which is more commonly known as near sightedness. In this case the person is unable to see distant objects clearly and as a result different other problems arises because distortion of the eye ball takes place due to near sightedness and is exactly opposite to that of Hyperopia as the eyeballs lengthen more than they normally should. Cataract is the third one among these eye diseases and is usually considered to be related to aging as the eye becomes weaker with age and as a result naturally occurring proteins join together and make clumps which increase in size over time and begin to grow over the lens thus making the vision blurry.

Astigmatism is the fourth eye disease in which the cornea of a person ceases to be round in shape and becomes curved and as a result the vision is affected and it needs to be diagnosed by a specialist in order to be treated in the right manner. Glaucoma is the fifth one and is one of the most common eye diseases where a person loses peripheral vision due to damage of the optic nerves and it is also the main symptom of it. It is caused by the build up of fluid in the eye. It has the tendency to come on slowly thus a person does not realize that his vision is changing. So in order to protect ourselves from this disease one needs to get his eyes examined every two to three years so that it can be diagnosed even before symptoms of it occur.

“Our goal is to honor the contribution of Microsoft employees that served or continue to serve,” Ballmer said in front of the wall, which has a screen with the names and photos of veterans now at Microsoft.

“Veterans make some of the best employees, but there’s a transition from military communication to business communication,” Ballmer said.

To help solve that problem, Microsoft is investing millions of dollars in post-military education for vets. In August, Microsoft announced it was backing a jobs for American vets effort with $2 million in cash and up to $6 million in software and training to help U.S. military veterans get IT training.

Microsoft is expanding its Elevate America Veterans initiative by partnering with the U.S. Department of Labor to distribute 10,000 technology training and certification packages to veterans. At today’s event, Ballmer said this commitment totals $12 million worth of cash, products and other services. Bellevue College’s Project Succeed will be one of six beneficiaries of the program.

Microsoft also recruits veterans through the company’s Military 2 Microsoft program, which helps veterans and those serving in the National Guard and Reserve to find job opportunities at Microsoft.

Microsoft timed its announcement to coincide with President Obama’s recent announcement of new measures to help returning vets tackle a high unemployment rate, which is currently at 12.1 percent. At the White House today, First Lady Michelle Obama praised Microsoft’s efforts, as well as those of Bellevue-based Guidant Financial.

Other tech companies are recognizing the talent that veterans bring to the table. In August, U.S. Sen. Patty Murray praised Amazon.com’s efforts to hire veterans. Amazon has hundreds of veterans currently working for the company, with many working in the customer service and fulfillment centers.

A Microsoft spokesperson said the company doesn’t know exactly how many veterans work there, but more than 500 have identified themselves as a veteran on personnel files.

“Veterans provide leadership, experience, maturity and passion, and Microsoft recognizes that,” said Maj. Gen. Chris Cortez, a retired Marine and Microsoft’s current general manager for strategic operations.

Here’s a list of the 10 accreditations with the greatest potential for technology support professionals, administrators, and managers seeking employment within consulting firms or small and midsize organizations.

By Erik Eckel

Just as with many popular arguments — Red Sox v. Yankees, Chelsea v. Manchester United, Ford v. Chevy — IT certifications are popular fodder for debate. Except that certifications, in an IT professional’s microcosm of a world, have a bigger impact on the future. Just which certifications hold the most value today? Here’s my list of the 10 accreditations with the greatest potential for technology support professionals, administrators, and managers seeking employment within consulting firms or small and midsize organizations.

Microsoft MCTS Certification, MCITP Certification and over 2000+
Exams with Life Time Access Membership at http://www.actualkey.com

1: MCITP

This best certification list could be built using 10 Microsoft certifications, many of which would be MCITP accreditations. The world runs on Microsoft. Those professionals earning Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) certification give employers and clients confidence that they’ve developed the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, deploy, support, maintain, and optimize Windows technologies. Specifically, the Enterprise Desktop Administrator 7 and Server Administrator tracks hold great appeal, as will Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2010, as older Exchange servers are retired in favor of the newer platform.

2: MCTS

With operating systems (Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, etc.) cycling through every several years, many IT professionals simply aren’t going to invest the effort to earn MCITP or MCSE accreditation on every version. That’s understandable. But mastering a single exam, especially when available examinations help IT pros demonstrate expertise with such popular platforms as Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Microsoft SQL Server 2008, is more than reasonable. That’s why the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) accreditation earns a spot on the list; it provides the opportunity for IT pros to demonstrate expertise on a specific technology that an organization may require right here, right now.

3: Network+

There’s simply no denying that IT professionals must know and understand the network principles and concepts that power everything within an organization’s IT infrastructure, whether running Windows, Linux, Apple, or other technologies. Instead of dismissing CompTIA’s Network+ as a baseline accreditation, every IT professional should add it to their resume.

4: A+

Just as with CompTIA’s Network+ certification, the A+ accreditation is another cert that all IT professionals should have on their resume. Proving baseline knowledge and expertise with the hardware components that power today’s computers should be required of all technicians. I’m amazed at the number of smart, intelligent, and seasoned IT pros who aren’t sure how to crack the case of a Sony Vaio or diagnose failed capacitors with a simple glance. The more industry staff can learn about the fundamental hardware components, the better.

5: CSSA

SonicWALLs power countless SMB VPNs. The company’s network devices also provide firewall and routing services, while extending gateway and perimeter security protections to organizations of all sizes. By gaining Certified SonicWALL Security Administrator (CSSA) certification, engineers can demonstrate their mastery of network security essentials, secure remote access, or secure wireless administration. There’s an immediate need for engineers with the knowledge and expertise required to configure and troubleshoot SonicWALL devices providing security services.

6: CCNA

Although SonicWALL has eaten some of Cisco’s lunch, the demand for Cisco skills remains strong. Adding Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) expertise to your resume does no harm and helps convince larger organizations, in particular, that you have the knowledge and skills necessary to deploy and troubleshoot Cisco routing and switching hardware.

7: ACTC

Here’s where the debate really begins. Increasingly, my office is being asked to deploy and administer Mac OS X networks. In the real world, divorced from IT-industry rhetoric, we’re being asked to replace older Windows networks with Mac OS X client-server environments. We’re particularly seeing Apple traction within nonprofit environments. We’ve found the best bet is to get up to speed on the technologies clients are requesting, so it stands to reason that earning Apple Certified Technical Coordinator (ACTC) 10.6 accreditation won’t hurt. In fact, developing mastery over Mac OS X Snow Leopard Server will help provide confidence needed to actually begin pursuing Apple projects, instead of reactively responding to client requests to deploy and maintain Apple infrastructure.

8: ACSP

Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP) 10.6 accreditation helps IT professionals demonstrate expertise supporting Mac OS X client workstations. If you work for a single organization, and that firm doesn’t use Macs, you won’t need this certification. But larger organizations adding Macs due to demand within different departments or consultants working with a wide client base will do well to ensure they have Snow Leopard client skills. The ACSP is the perfect way to prove mastery.

9: CISSP

Unchanged from the last 10 best certifications list, ISC2’s security accreditation for industry professionals with at least five years of full-time experience is internationally recognized for its value and validity. The Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) title demonstrates expertise with operations and network security, subjects that will only increase in importance as legal compliance, privacy, and risk mitigation continue commanding larger organizations’ attention.

10: PMP

I fear organizations begin cutting project managers first when times get tough. Management roles and responsibilities often get passed to technical staff when layoffs occur. Even in challenging economic times, though, IT departments require staff familiar with planning, scheduling, budgeting, and project management. That’s why the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) accreditation makes the list. The cert measures candidates’ expertise in managing and planning projects, budgeting expenses, and keeping initiatives on track. While there’s an argument to place CompTIA’s Project+ certification in this slot, PMI is a respected organization that exists solely to further professional project management and, as such, deserves the nod.

Honorable mentions: MCSE, ITIL, RHCP, Linux+, VCP, ACE, QuickBooks, Security+

In the previous version of this article, readers asked where NetWare certification stands. It’s not on the list. That’s not a mistake. It’s gone the way of BNC connectors, in my opinion. Microsoft owns the market. MCSEs have more value.

ITIL has its place, particularly in larger environments. RHCP (or Linux+) and VCP have roles within enterprises dependent upon Red Hat/Linux and VMware virtualization technologies certainly, but those organizations remain hit or miss.

Acronis’ ACE deserves a look. With some 3 million systems being backed up now by Acronis image software, it would behoove technology professionals to learn how to properly use the software. I think it’s fair to say there’s still some confusion as to the software’s tremendous potential.

SMBs are also demonstrating a surge of interest in QuickBooks technologies. From QuickBooks Point-of-Sale to QuickBooks Enterprise platforms, there’s strong, growing demand for QuickBooks expertise in the field. The company’s growth is impressive. There’s no other way to describe it. In a crappy economy, Intuit’s growing.

Security+, really, is a no brainer, but I’ll get lit up if I include nothing but CompTIA certifications in the top 10 list. However, my advice for anyone entering the industry or even veterans seeking their first accreditations would be to load up on CompTIA certs. How can you go wrong with the manufacturer-independent certifications that demonstrate mastery of fundamentals across a range of topics, including project management, hardware, networking, security, and voice networks? You could do much worse.

A word on the methodology

There’s no double-blind statistically valid data analysis run through a Bayesian probability calculus formula here. I’ve worked in IT long enough, however, and with enough different SMBs, to know what skills we need when the firm I co-own hires engineers and sends technicians onsite to deploy new systems or troubleshoot issues.

Sure, I could have thrown in ITIL to satisfy enterprise professionals, included RHCP to sate the rabid open source crowd, and added VCP to look hip modernizing the list with a virtualization element. But I’m just not seeing the demand for those skills in companies with up to several hundred employees. My firm’s been asked to deploy exactly one Linux server in almost seven years. And we’ve virtualized maybe a dozen systems. Therefore, I feel it would be a disservice to readers to include such accreditations when I see, on a daily basis, vastly greater demand for these other skill sets.

Researchers at Microsoft have been quietly finding — and helping to fix — security defects in products made by third-party vendors, including Apple and Google.

This month alone, the MSVR (Microsoft Security Vulnerability Research) team released advisories to document vulnerabilities in WordPress and Apple’s Safari browser and in July, software flaws were found and fixed in Google Picasa and Facebook.

Best Microsoft MCTS Certification, Microsoft MCITP Training at certkingdom.com

The MSVR program, launched two three years ago, gives Microsoft researchers freedom to audit the code of third-party software and work in a collaborative way with the affected vendor to get those issues fixed before they are publicly compromised.

The team’s work gained prominence in 2009 when a dangerous security hole in Google Chrome Frame was found and fixed but it’s not very well known that the team has spent the last year disclosing hundreds of security defects in third-party software.

Since July 2010, Microsoft said the MSVR team identified and responsibly disclosed 109 different software vulnerabilities affecting a total of 38 vendors.

More than 93 percent of the third-party vulnerabilities found through MSVR since July 2010 were rated as Critical or Important, the company explained.

“Vendors have responded and have coordinated on 97 percent of all reported vulnerabilities; 29 percent of third-party vulnerabilities found since July 2010 have already been resolved, and none of the vulnerabilities without updates have been observed in any attacks,” Microsoft said.

This week’s discoveries:

A vulnerability exists in the way Safari handles certain content types. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause Safari to execute script content and disclose potentially sensitive information. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability would gain sensitive information that could be used in further attacks.
A vulnerability exists in the way that WordPress previously implemented protection against cross site scripting and content-type validation. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to achieve script execution.

You probably download TV shows, movies, and music to your phone. And of course, you take, send, and receive photos. It's truly amazing—anywhere you go, you're connected. So here's the question. If you already have everything on your phone, why sync it with your PC?

Because synchronizing your phone with your PC is the best way to transfer information, settings, and files. You keep all your information up to date. And you have it at home and at work.

Keep appointments
We're all overbooked. If you've entered an appointment or meeting into your PC and haven't synced with your phone, you could miss the appointment. If you’re scheduling appointments away from home on your phone and your phone's not synced with the up-to-date schedule on your computer, you may miss the appointment and have to call the dentist, piano teacher, or doctor to reschedule. Often, you have to pay for those missed appointments. Plus, you go through the hassle of rescheduling.

The latest version of Windows Phone makes it even easier to keep track of appointments. The new Today screen that appears when you turn on your phone shows your appointments and any missed calls, unread messages, and your programs. The new Lock screen displays new messages and appointments without requiring you to enter a PIN when the phone is locked—all while providing access to mute, speakerphone, hold, and other functions during calls, so you don’t miss a thing. Call it appointment insurance.

Take work, projects, or homework with you
Need to finish your homework—a report on fifteenth-century Paraguayan dictators—or practice a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation? Now you can do this work on your phone while riding the bus or sitting in a coffee shop. Have to complete a report or speech or enter data into an Excel spreadsheet for a project you're working on? Catch up with your work on your phone while you’re waiting for your teenager to finish guitar lessons or while you're having the oil changed in your car. It's possible just by installing Microsoft Office Mobile 2010 on your Windows Phone. And because you get the familiar Microsoft Office look and feel and the programs that you’re used to, there's no learning curve.

If you're using a touch screen phone, you get additional features, such as word count and spell check. You can create charts in Microsoft Excel Mobile, plus you can create documents in Microsoft Word Mobile, and you can highlight sections of content that you would like to fix later or that you've downloaded and want to remember. You can use OneNote Mobile to take quick notes or to save web links and then sync your notes with your PC, so you always have up-to-date information.

The latest version of Microsoft Office Mobile is compatible with the Office 2010 and previous Microsoft Office and Office Mobile releases, so you can work with all your existing Microsoft Office documents. Plus, Office Mobile gives you even more options for working with documents from your phone. Now you can create even richer charts in Excel Mobile, use SmartArt and Themes in PowerPoint Mobile, and view the contents of zipped folders. And wouldn’t it be nice to have a choice about how you view those documents? If you use Windows Phone, you do. With Windows Phone, you can choose between Mobile view (enhanced for display on phones) or Full Desktop view when working on documents. Also, the improved clipboard on your Windows Phone makes copying and pasting to and from any applications on your phone simple and intuitive.

Office Mobile 2010 includes a new application that makes working with documents on your phone even easier—SharePoint Workspace Mobile 2010. This application makes sending your Microsoft Office documents from your phone via email or saving them directly to SharePoint Server simple. You can open SharePoint documents directly from your phone, edit them, and save them to the server. You can also sync them to your PC.

You can download a free Office Mobile upgrade for qualified phones. If Office Mobile is not pre-installed on your phone, you don't have to get a new phone. You can just purchase Office Mobile separately from Windows Marketplace for Mobile. Read this article to learn even more about Office Mobile 2010.

Save pictures
You take pictures with your phone, right? You take your phone everywhere, so when you don't have your camera, you just take pictures with your phone. You snap photos of your kids when they do something cute, which, let's face it, as parents, you think is pretty often. You're on a great mountain bike trail, and you take a picture to send to your friends. And what was once only available to private eyes and spies is now right on your phone. Espionage is at your fingertips. Sort of. Honest espionage. Like covertly snapping a shot of the cute guy you've been telling your friends about. Or taking a picture of the waterfront condo your parents want to buy. You can send these pictures right away, but you probably want to save many of them to your PC. One word: synchronize.

Protect your stuff against loss or theft
Here's a question for you. What's easier to misplace or even lose: your phone or your PC? Loss, theft, and malfunctions don't just happen to others. They happen. To everyone.

Although replacing a lost or stolen phone isn't exactly fun, it's a job you can take care of pretty easily. Replacing the email, contact information, pictures, music, and documents that you stored on that phone, however, can prove to be an impossible task if you haven’t synchronized your phone with your PC on a regular basis.

And remember this. You wouldn't dream of not backing up your PC. For your phone, synchronizing is your backup.

Want more peace of mind? Try the Microsoft My Phone service. It’s free. My Phone backs up the contents of your Windows Phone—contacts, calendars, photos, text messages, documents, and more—to the My Phone website for password-protected access and retrieval from any PC with an Internet connection. A bonus: After you’ve synced your phone’s contents to My Phone, you can search your text messages from the My Phone site. With My Phone, you can also easily send photos to social networking sites—from your phone—and even locate your phone if you lose it.

Sync and save—time, money, and your important information!

Slooh.com provides crowdsourced access to live telescopes from around the world. Since its December 2003 launch, members have taken 1.3 million photos of 35,000 unique objects and events in the night sky. The Google doodle will include a live feed of the lunar eclipse from Slooh’s Space Camera, which will update every two minutes throughout the event.

When you land on the doodle, a dial at the bottom of the image will move from left to right, going through the various stages of the eclipse, before settling on its current state. For a slower view, however, you can move the dial back and forth yourself.

Earlier today, Google announced that it would team up with Slooh to live stream the eclipse. There are several ways to watch: Slooh’s live mission interface includes audio narrations from real-life astronomers and it also has an Android app; there’s a live stream on the Google YouTube Channel; and there’s an eclipse sky layer in Google Earth that’s accessible via a special plug-in.

During a lunar eclipse, Earth comes between the sun and the moon so that all or part of the sun’s light is blocked from the moon, according to NASA.

Wednesday’s eclipse is also notable for how long it will last. “The total phase itself lasts 100 minutes. The last eclipse to exceed this duration was in July 2000,” astrophysicist Fred Espenak wrote in NASA’s eclipse guide for 2011.

The entire event will be visible from the eastern half of Africa, the Middle East, central Asia, and western Australia, Espenak said. Europe will miss the first part of the eclipse because it happens before moonrise, but—with the exception of northern Scotland and northern Scandinavia—Europeans will be able to see totality. Eastern Asia, eastern Australia, and New Zealand, meanwhile, will miss the last stages of eclipse because they occur after moonset.

In South America, observers in eastern Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina will witness totality, but nothing will be viewable from North America. Those in the U.S. should be able to see the December eclipse, however.

Google leaves IPv6 on for YouTube; Facebook adds IPv6 to developers’ site; Yahoo sees ‘minimal risk’ to IPv6

One day after completing a successful 24-hour trial of IPv6, Facebook, Google and Yahoo said at a joint press conference that they would begin permanently supporting this upgrade to the Internet’s main communications protocol on some of their key websites.

Joined by two content delivery networks — Akamai and Limelight, which also pledged their commitment to IPv6 deployment — these popular websites proclaimed the World IPv6 Day trial to be a resounding success. All three companies said they had handled a significant increase in IPv6 traffic on June 8 without suffering serious technical glitches.

IPv6 features an expanded addressing scheme, so it can handle vastly more devices connected directly to the Internet than its predecessor called IPv4. However, IPv6 is not backward compatible with IPv4, which means website operators have to upgrade their network equipment and software to support IPv6 traffic.

DETAILS: No news is good news on World IPv6 Day

Google said it has decided to leave its main YouTube website enabled for IPv6 for the time being. Since 2008, Google has supported IPv6 on separate websites — such as www.ipv6.google.com — rather than on its main websites.

“We saw 65% growth in our IPv6 traffic on World IPv6 Day,” said Lorenzo Colitti, IPv6 Software Engineer at Google, who pointed out that Google added IPv6 support to several new services including Orkut for the trial. “This event has really been successful in galvanizing the community.”

“At Facebook, we saw over 1 million of our users reach us over IPv6,” said Don Lee, senior network engineer at Facebook. “There were no technical glitches in this 24-hour period. We were encouraged by the many positive comments on our blog. … It is really interesting to see how passionate people were about IPv6 around the world MCTS Online Training - MCITP Online Training.”

Because of the positive results from World IPv6 Day, Facebook has decided to support IPv6 on its Website for developers, which is www.developers.facebook.com.

“We will continue to adapt our entire code base to support IPv6,” Lee added. “IPv6 will allow the Internet to continue its amazing development.”

BY THE NUMBERS: IPv6 traffic surges at launch of World IPv6 Day

World IPv6 Day was held yesterday and was sponsored by the Internet Society. The event attracted 400-plus corporate, government and university participants that deployed IPv6 on more than 1,000 websites for the day.

Leslie Daigle, chief Internet technology officer for the Internet Society, said World IPv6 Day was designed to motivate service providers, website operators, hardware makers and software suppliers to test-drive IPv6 and to identify any remaining technical issues that need to be resolved with this emerging technology.

“It was perceived to be quite a successful day,” Daigle said. “It was an amazing display of cross-industry participation. … It’s an important step in the Internet’s progress. We are running out of IPv4 addresses, and IPv6 is definitely the way to move forward to make sure the Internet is a platform for innovation.”
