The Most Anticipated Products & Technologies of 2011
These are the pieces of technology, coming in 2011, that excite us the most.
2011 is just around the corner, and with the new year comes expectations. Some are new, others are not: Some are “carryovers” from what we anticipated in 2010 that never materialized. This year we saw some reinvention in tech (i.e. the tablet computer form factor), and we await an influx of mature products in 2011.
There are some sure bets for 2011: Windows Phone 7 will definitely get a shot in the arm in the U.S. after its Verizon release and subsequent upgrades from Microsoft bring out the full potential out of the mobile operating system. And, like clockwork, June will bring another Apple iPhone. We’ll see a new edition of Madden football in stores, continuing to bring realism to the venerable franchise. Another sure bet: Phones that can take advantage of real 4G speeds will enter the market.
Some expectations are certainly not guaranteed, but probable. New technology should make it easier to reinforce your home network by bridging technologies, such as Wi-Fi, PowerLine, and Ethernet. Expect 3D camcorders, which will let you create content for your 3D TV. Still camera technology is looking to blur the line between point-and-shoot cameras and D-SLRs, with new Micro Four Third cameras and pocket D-SLRs.
We’re unlikely to see a major refresh to the Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation 3 in 2011, considering they became super-motion-friendly in 2010. Also, we don’t think Redmond will be shipping Windows 8 any time soon.
We have some major expectations for 2011. Find out what technologies and products we are hotly anticipating in the slideshow.
